What
About Online Security?
|
|
A secure server encrypts all data between the customer's
browser and the server. You can then either view
the data on a password-protected area of the secure
server with your web browser, or the server can email
it to you in an encrypted form which only you have
the key to decrypt.
Why is security important? When a customer browses your online shop, the data travels through a number of computers such as routers, gateways, and other network devivces. If a customer types his credit card number in an insecure order form, it's possible for his credit card details to be intercepted and stolen at some point between his browser and the web server. Secure technology, such as SSL which is used on the Way to the Web Limited secure server, uses digital "keys" to encrypt (mathematically encode) the information between the customer's web browser and the secure web server, making it virtually impossible for the data to be intercepted and read at any point between the customer and the server. In other words, when you use a secure server and/or encrypted email, nobody between the customer's computer and the computer which hosts your website can read the encrypted information. |
